Surprise!

Thursday, August 25, 2011

Nanny was going to lunch with three of her friends to celebrate her 75th birthday. My family decided it would be fun to join her luncheon as a surprise. Grandaddy called one of her friends to make sure it would be okay. She was more than happy for us to crash...I mean join their luncheon.

Nanny's friend arrived first and informed the hostess of the plans. So not to ruin the surprise, the hostess sat Nanny and her three friends at a table for four and set up a larger table in the back for the real party. We snuck into the larger table once they were seated and the hostess went over and told the ladies that a large group was coming in and they wanted to move them to a quieter area to most enjoy their conversation. Luckily, Nanny didn't think anything of it and just walked to the new table and....SURPRISE!!

We enjoyed a great lunch at Red Lobster together.

And then something else surprised us...an earthquake! We were all pretty frightened. It was a really loud rumble. It sounded as though an airplane was about to land in Red Lobster. We all just looked around at each other wide-eyed until Aunt Sue blurts out, "I think we should do something...we need to get under the table!" And then it was over. We were all a little stunned and still didn't totally know what just happened. Aunt Sue frantically checked her phone, trying to get in touch with Rosie, but calls wouldn't go through. The funny part was that Nanny wasn't phased one bit. She just kept opening her plentiful gifts as if nothing was happening. She was certainly showered with gifts!

I hope you had a fantastic surprise birthday, Nanny! Here's to many more wonderful years to come!
(Turns out it was a magnitude 5.8 earthquake.)
