Our House

We have been house hunting for about one month now. Steve and I have gone back and forth deciding on an area where we'd like to live and have also flip-flopped between looking at townhouses and single family homes. Ideally, we wanted a single family home with a nice yard. Unfortunately, in our area, those are quite pricey. Another hurdle was the fact that we both seem to gravitate towards newer homes. Well of course there's no way we could afford a newer single family home in our area. So we settled for looking at newer townhouses with the assumption that we could move to a single family home when needed in a few years.

We had been out with our realtor a few times and searched online daily for new listings. Last Saturday, Steve commented that he couldn't wait for the time that we'd walk into a house and we would immediately know that it was "the one." I prayed for that day to come. Our realtor was busy last weekend, but we were getting good at this house hunting thing and found a few places that were having an open house on Sunday. We put our list together to head out. There was one place in Lorton that I wanted to go to (we've been back and forth about the Lorton area) and I convinced Steve to let us go there first just to check it out. I had no idea what we were in for. We walked in the door and it took my breath away. This was it. We had to have this house.

It's a new community, so we were touring the model home. We stayed for four hours. We called my mom and step dad to come check it out. We called Steve's parents to come, too. We were in love. Needless to say, we didn't make it to any of the other houses on our list that day. Sunday night, we called our realtor to ask her to meet us there on Monday to give us her thoughts. Long story short, we showed up again on Tuesday and signed a contract!

Here's our new house! We are the proud owners of a beautiful square of land!

Our house will eventually look similar to this:

The entrance to our future home will look similar to this:

We never dreamed that we'd have the opportunity to build our first house. We can't wait to share our journey! Construction is scheduled to begin in April and is estimated to be completed in August. We are SO excited!!!!
